Web Design - Local Color Web Reboot
For this web design project, I gave Local Color, a beloved independent bookshop in Baltimore, a much-needed digital makeover. The goal was to create an engaging online experience that matched the warmth and creativity of the shop itself while also making the site easy to navigate and functional for customers.
I began by diving into current trends in bookstore websites and brainstorming what would make the online experience feel inviting and dynamic. I also drew a lot of inspiration from my wedding planning experience. The process taught me how important it is to think about mood, color, and design in a way that resonates emotionally with the audience. I used those lessons to select a calming yet vibrant color palette that feels fresh and approachable, giving the site a welcoming atmosphere without being overly flashy.
Wireframes played a key role in the design process. Before diving into the visual design, I used wireframes to map out the layout and structure of each page. This helped me make thoughtful decisions about navigation and user experience, ensuring important sections like event listings, book recommendations, and store hours were easy to access. The layout was clean, with plenty of white space, so everything felt organized and approachable.
This project allowed me to blend my passion for design, community storytelling, and user experience. It was not just about creating a beautiful website; it was about capturing the spirit of Local Color and translating that into an online space where people could feel connected to the bookstore, discover new books, and learn about exciting events in the neighborhood.
